Sybourn Early Years Excellence Centre
In the Early Years Centre at Sybourn, we aim to provide the highest-quality care and education for all our children, thereby giving them a strong foundation for their future learning. We create a safe and happy environment with motivating and enjoyable learning experiences that enable children to become confident and independent. We value the individual child and work alongside parents/carers and others to meet their needs and help every child to reach their full potential.

We plan an exciting and challenging curriculum based on our observation of children’s needs, interests, and stages of development across the seven areas of learning, to enable the children to achieve and exceed the early learning goals.

All seven areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected and are therefore taught with a cross-curricular approach.

It is important that the Characteristics of Learning (engagement through playing and exploring, being motivated through active learning, and creating and thinking critically) that underpin these curriculum areas are specifically planned for. Skills such as independence, curiosity, resilience, collaboration and reflection are critical for success as a 21st-century learner.

Children at Sybourn make excellent progress and for the last two years have left the Early Years with a higher than national average good level of development.

Children benefit from our excellent outdoor provision which they can access in all weathers. We are lucky to have a large outdoor play area with large trees and grounds, and plenty of space for children to develop their gross motor skills.

Families meet with school staff before children join Nursery or Reception, and gradually build up to a full session, allowing children to develop relationships and feel secure in their new environment.

Success is something we readily celebrate at Sybourn, both academic and personal. We know this helps the children develop their self-confidence and self-esteem, which in turn encourages them to continue to do their very best. We hold a wide range of events throughout the year where we invite parents into the school to help us celebrate the achievements of all the children.

Various workshops and sessions are regularly offered for families and their children up to 5 years old.

The school has two nurseries in order to offer a variety of options to parents.
