Sybourn’s Citizenship Challenge
Our School Council joined with the Go Givers organisation and took up the "Make A Difference" Challenge.

The Council worked hard and involved all pupils in choosing what Sybourn's challenge would be; the children voted for our challenge to be tackling the issue of litter on our local streets. School Councillors researched the issue, gained the views of their classmates, held a poster competition and created a presentation performance to share the work they have been doing.

They were invited to deliver this performance along with other schools at the Go Givers' celebration event at the V&A museum in London. We were a big hit with our drama and rap performance. A great achievement!

But! The good work hasn't stopped there – the very next day we were out on the streets around our school completing a 'litter pick' as part of Waltham Forest's Big Spring Clean! We managed to pick up seven bags of litter and more than that in recyclable materials. Residents of Sybourn Street came out to say thank you and congratulate the children on a job well done.

The next steps are to present the performance to the whole school and get the poster competition winners displayed in and around the school, plus a leaflet home to let all of our families know that if we work together we can keep our streets looking their best.

Go Givers sent us this thank you message:
"The Go Givers Team was really impressed with your litter campaign, and lively performance. Well done for opening the show and setting a high standard for the day! You conveyed an important message effectively and really demonstrated that
no-one is too young to make a difference!"
